Starting from our home city of Zurich, we will follow the blurred and uncertain traces of Swiss women architects of the 20th century. Figures such as Annemarie Hubacher-Constam, Flora Steiger-Crawford, Lisbeth Sachs, Elsa Burckhardt-Blum, Trix Haussmann, and Lux Guyer have shaped the architectural landscape, with a lasting effect on Swiss building culture. Their work, which has only recently been rediscovered, deserves to be known and visited by all of us.
We will meet their successors, who have not only been influenced by their work but also care to carry on their legacy.
Together, we will visit their familiar and lesser known, often inaccessible works, which offer incredible architectural qualities that have often been overlooked or misattributed. Through workshops and conversations, we will explore the architecture, as well as its social, material and aesthetic values. We will reflect on the role of women architects, both now and then, and explore how experiencing their work can contribute to our own contemporary architectural practice and discourse.
