Instead of tearing down AXA, we chose to build an extension within the building code lot. The first six floors are an extension of the office space, and the upper floors are apartments. Our goal is to densify New Oerlikon whilst maintaining the human scale. By making the roof of the Axa building publicly accessible, we provide new public space to the neighbourhood. The roof terrace holds a village square with a view, a shared garden, and a cafe. We also want the housing to be less anonymous. Therefore movement in the building should be perceivable, making the building come to life. This village up in the air consists of multi-storey houses and apartments, connected to a terrace and wintergarden, maintaining the theme of the human scale in the strongly developing neighborhood.
